A few days ago, I was going through the annual ritual of watching the first round of the NFL draft on television. As I sat there, hoping my team wouldn’t screw up the pick somehow…I noticed they were doing something a little different this year. The producers had let each of the eligible players select a song that would be played when their name was called. So, as they walked up to the podium to shake the commissioner’s hand, they had a theme song of sorts playing in the background…much like a boxer or wrestler has when they walk to the ring. They had given themselves entrance songs. Naturally, I started to think about what song I would choose as my own entrance song…should the need ever arise. There have been some great pairings over the years – Ric Flair and “Also Sprach Zarathustra,” The Chicago Bulls and “Sirius,” Ricky Vaughn and “Wild Thing.” Which song would I pick?  Well, it’s always hard to think of only one.

So here, in no particular order, are my personal top ten choices of entrance songs…for whenever and wherever I might need them…

Pantera  – “Walk”

Gang Starr – “Now You’re Mine”

Ted Nugent – “Stranglehold”

At The Drive-In – “Arc Arsenal”

Rush – “Tom Sawyer”

Sepultura – “Refuse/Resist”

Public Enemy – “Shut ‘em Down”

Rage Against the Machine – “Bombtrack”

Joe Esposito – You’re The Best

Helmet – “Unsung”

There you have it. I know I left out some good ones and probably dated myself a bit more, but it’s hard to narrow it down to just ten.

What are some of yours?
