Another year has come and gone, and another class of musicians has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. While this year’s class had some obvious and worthy choices such as Nirvana and Hall and Oates, I can’t help but feel a little jaded about the whole induction process. It seems that certain musicians just never seem to get the recognition they deserve. I understand that only a limited number are inducted each year, and there are certain stipulations such as having to have had a 25+ year waiting period to even be considered. Yet, it seems to me there are always some blatant omissions…as well as some puzzling inductees. I have heard the arguments and reasons behind it, but I still don’t understand what musicians like Madonna or Donna Summer are doing in the “Rock and Roll” Hall of Fame. Nothing against them…but you might as well call it simply “The Music Hall of Fame” instead. Plus, everyone who gets in is bumping someone else out of that year’s class. There are a million lists of deserving artists that haven’t gotten in yet… why not make my own?
So here, in no particular order, are my top ten artists who deserve entry, but have so far been snubbed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame…
The Cure
The Smiths
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Motörhead
Sonic Youth
The Zombies
Slayer
Chicago
Fugazi
Nick Cave
There you have it. Who are some of yours?
