As the Live Music Capital of the World, it’s no surprise that Austin, TX has a rich musical history. In an effort to document that history, KUT Austin, Localore, and Zeega have partnered to create a public media experiment to explore “Austin’s diverse sonic geography, creating portraits of the venues and spaces where musical communities gather.”
The project, entitled Austin Music Map, encourages residents to share stories of their favorite musical scenes. For instance, producer Lindsay Patterson followed Minor Mishap Marching Band’s ambitious canoe performance. It also explores the genres that might not get the recognition they deserve in the Austin scene, such as Conjunto and Gospel. In addition to the music itself, Austin Music Map also aims to document the places that inspire and showcase artists.

The project also proposed a panel for SXSW Interactive (that includes a bicycle tour!) so hopefully it garnered enough votes through PanelPicker!
