A few months ago, we posted a blog for The Goods that was all about great covers. A natural expansion on this topic, this week we’ve chosen to feature The Onion’s A.V. Undercover series. The concept is simple; the A.V. Club staff created a list of 25 songs they wanted to see covered and then invited artists to their Chicago office to play the tunes. The earlier an artist came to the office the better, because once a song was covered it was crossed off the list and options became slim.
The series became so popular that the A.V. Club kept creating lists…this time with input from their readers. The results are pretty amazing. Here are some of our favorites…
Haunting rendition of The Flaming Lips’ “Do You Realize?” by Father John Misty:
Fun version of The Decemberists’ “Los Angeles, I’m Yours” from Los Angeles based group Mariachi El Bronx:
Of Montreal rocking The White Stripes’ “Fell In Love With A Girl”:
A gem from the first season, The Swell Season covering Neutral Milk Hotel:
Last but not least, a ridiculously awesome cover of “Ignition (Remix)” from Young the Giant:
