‘Body Talk.’ Those two words have been attached to some great music the past decade or so. From Robyn’s electro pop masterpiece Body Talk to the recent “Talking Body” by Tove Lo currently blazing up the pop charts, the joining of these words through music produces some stellar results.

The latest addition to this series comes from a familiar voice you have more than likely heard before. UK bred Foxes has been quite the busy body. The past few years, she has managed to release an EP, a debut album, toured with Marina and the Diamonds as well as Pharrell and ,not to mention, stealing our hearts as the vocalist on Zedd’s 2013 summer smash “Clarity.” Now Foxes has made it quite clear that she is coming and is playing precisely no games.

Foxes

“Body Talk” is one of those instant records that feels like you’ve known it your whole life after hearing it one time. Blame it on the sugary sweet, immediate chorus, “Body Talk” starts off her new era strong.

“Days like these,
I just want you back,
I can’t breathe,
I can’t even speak…”

The opening verse packs a somber punch, riding 80’s style guitar riffs that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Rilo Kiley, Metric or even Blondie album. The lyrics allude to that moment after a breakup where you understand you’re better off without your partner, but still miss the physicality of your relationship. What better way to deal than to dance it out? Despite the forlorn lyrics, the upbeat nature of the instrumental counters them and leaves you in a game of tug of war with your heart and mind that may leave you bobbing your head as your wipe one lonely tear from your eye.

Foxes voice shines through and never once pays second fiddle to the strong production. “Body Talk” is a perfect reintroduction to the rising star. This may be the song to push casual listeners into fandom. It worked for me! Look out for Foxes latest release due later this year. Pick up the “Body Talk” single out now on Sony Music.
