The walls of our San Diego office were reverberating with the dance-pop pulses of Dr. Seahorse on Friday, August 9th.

The duo, comprised of singer/songwriter Trevor Davis and producer/percussionist Mark Suhone, dub their sound “electro swag,” and appropriately so. Even in a stripped-down office setting, their production was smooth; the beats were driving; and the vocals were rich and powerful. Their official bio describes Dr. Seahorse’s music as: “Michael Jackson meets Postal Service meets a Wes Anderson movie and is both emotionally honest and entertainingly quirky.”

The group opened with their new album’s title track, “Go” (a personal new favorite of mine), and rolled into Dr. Seahorse’d cover versions of Genesis and The Lovin’ Spoonful. The Mood staff was also treated to a debut performance of their track, “Adore You.”

Trevor took a few minutes to chat about the group’s new record and some recent local success: Dr. Seahorse is featured as 91X’s Local Break Artist for the month of August, and they are nominated for “Best Pop” in the upcoming San Diego Music Awards. He also spoke about his stint on this season’s The Voice (NBC) and the coaching he received from Blake Shelton and Sheryl Crow.

Dr. Seahorse and the Music Design team snapped a few pictures, and it was here that we noticed the uncanny resemblance that our Music Designers Jesse Nathason and Tristan Bolden have with Trevor and Mark. Doppelgängers much?
