I’ve always had an appreciation for great vocalists and talented musicians in general. This is why I was so very excited to see the return of The Brand New Heavies after more than ten years away from the scene, with many of the original members, including the stellar vocalist N’Dea Davenport. The Brand New Heavies crossed my radar almost twenty five years ago as we were inching our way out of the ’80s “new wave” era and into the genre melting pot of the ’90s. This multi-platinum selling group was in the fore front of a style we called “acid jazz,” which combined soul, jazz, funk, and r&b, and best describes their sound today.
The Brand New Heavies still have their game.
