If you’ve been following my blogs, you’ve probably noticed how much I cherish breezy, sophisticated, soulful vocalists. Miss Renee Simone is, without a doubt, no exception.
Renee was originally part of an Australian band, The Blackbirds, where folks took notice during performances on Australia’s Got Talent program. Now Renee has released her first solo album, entitled Roar.
Renee’s selections and jazzy, soulful style are truly a warming presence filled with the spirit of empowerment and optimism. Admittedly, her influences include Erykah Badu, Neneh Cherry, Lauryn Hill, and I would include Yuna. I not only hear and feel it but also see it in her expression in chosen feminine fashion style. My picks off the album: “You Are Beautiful,” “Top Shelf,” “Woman Rise Up,” “Revive,” and “Don’t Let It Break You.”
