As each year comes to a close, we ask our Music Design team to look back at all of the music they listened to over that twelve month span and narrow down their favorites. In 2020, we’re looking ahead and asking our Music Designers to share the releases they are looking forward to the most. Since the team is tasked with finding fresh music to feature on our global programming, they’re always anticipating the next best thing. Along with researching music for our professionally designed playlists, the team is consistently seeking new tunes to add to their personal music libraries and inspiration for their musical side projects, as many members of our talented team also perform in bands or DJ at events or radio stations. Here are a few of the highly anticipated albums our team listed…
One recently released album that was mentioned by several Music Designers is the latest from Australian’s Tame Impala. The Slow Rush is the band’s first album in five years and does not disappoint. Check out their video for the single “Lost in Yesterday.”
Another recently released album that our team is loving comes from Destroyer. Here’s the song “Crimson Tide” from the band’s twelfth studio album, Have We Met.
Our resident jazz guru has has Morning Light by Ken Fowser on rotation since its release in late January. Here’s a sample of the artist’s work:
This Friday brings the release from Caribou entitled Suddenly via Merge. Here’s one of the tracks…
In March, frequent collaborators (and brothers) Roger and Brian Eno will release their first project as a duo. 15 years of material is going into Mixing Colours, which is due 3/20 via Deutsche Grammophon.
Coming this April is the new album It Is What It Is from Thundercat via Brainfeed.
The month of May promises several anticipated releases, including A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip from Sparks via BMG, græ from Moses Sumney via Jagjaguwar and Built To Spill Play The Songs Of Daniel Johnston from Built To Spill via Ernest Jenning Record Co. The latter album serves as a tribute after Daniel Johnson’s passing in 2019 and is comprised of recordings from the rehearsal studio when Built to Spill performed as Johnson’s backing band during his final tour in 2017.
Another exciting project coming later this year is a record and accompanying animated Netflix series entitled Entergalactic from Kid Cudi. For his first solo album since 2016, Kid Cudi is taking it to the next level by executive producing, starring, writing and soundtracking a series based on the forthcoming release. Find more details from Netflix HERE.
In addition to albums already slated for release, our Music Designers are looking forward to new music this year from The Strokes, Lianne La Havas, Phoebe Bridgers, Frank Ocean, Lana Del Ray, Dinosaur, Jr. and Kendrick Lamar. What new releases are you looking forward to in 2020?
