On February 2nd, Austin’s own Shearwater played their first show of 2012 for our Live Series at the Mean Eyed Cat. Music Designers, employees, and local Tastemakers were treated to a “live rehearsal,” where the band played Animal Joy in its entirety live for the first time with the new line-up. It was a special night and a nice send off for the band, who is now on tour with Sharon Van Etten.

After the performance, Deidre Gott (Music Designer) sat down with Jonathan Meiburg to talk about how they took a different approach for the new album, where their tour will take them, and why he’s heading out to the Falklands (yes, the Falklands!).

Produced by Danny Reisch (White Denim, Okkervil River, Bright Light Social Hour) and mixed by Peter Katis (The National, Interpol, Jonsi, Frightened Rabbit), the band’s fourth album, Animal Joy, was released today through Sub Pop Records. Stream the album below and purchase a copy here.
