Based out of Denton, Texas, Seryn is making an impact in their home state and across the country. The band’s debut album, This Is Where We Are, received much critical acclaim and landed on Paste’s 2011 lists for Best Albums and Best Songs. Their music combines guitars, ukulele, accordion, bass, viola, banjo and percussion into a sound that is, as their website states, “soaring and serene.”
Prior to their show at Mohawk last December, Seryn stopped in to play a set for our Live Series at the Mean Eyed Cat. The band’s combination of tight harmonies and unique blend of instruments made for the perfect respite from a long day’s work for our Music Designers and employees. After their set, we sat the band down next to Mean Eyed Cat’s Johnny Cash themed Christmas tree and asked them about Seryn’s origins, their recent collaborative Christmas album, and their favorite music of 2011. Oh, and of course we asked them about their beards.
