Despite his incredibly busy SXSW schedule, Brooklyn rapper Talib Kweli took the time to meet with our Music Designers in Mood’s Austin office on Friday, March 15th. Gathered in the Knittel Lounge, surrounded by our hand-crafted vinyl player and record collection, it was a free-flowing conversation about music between Talib, up-and-coming artisit Cory Mo, and about 15 Music Designers from Austin, TX and Miami, FL.

Talib Kweli

It was one of the most insightful interviews we’ve had and both artists couldn’t have been more down to earth.

Here’s one of our favorite quotes from the conversation:

The industry has flipped. There is no more music industry. Now the artists that people are excited about are the indie artists, not artists on the major label.

Watch the video below to hear about Talib’s influences, more of his opinions on the changing music industry, why he feels it’s important to be well-traveled and more.

Talib Kweli’s upcoming album, Prisoner of Conscious, will be released on May 7, 2013 and he’s currently on tour in the U.S. through Spring. We highly recommend catching a show. Don’t forget to learn more about his other projects as well, including Black Star (with Mos Def), Reflection Eternal (with Hi-Tek), and Idle Warship (with Res).
