For fifteen years, Miami’s Bayfront Park has turned the city into a 72-hour nightclub every March for the annual ULTRA Music Festival. This year, the city experienced its first ever two-consecutive-weekend celebration with the Winter Music Conference held in between. And now, just shy of two months later, tickets for ULTRA 2014 are SOLD OUT.

Tickets went on sale May 21st at 1:00PM for $149. Those were sold out in a matter of seconds. Then they rose to $275. Sold out as well. Now the coveted tickets stand at a staggering $395 for general admission.

But why the ULTRA phenomenon? You arrive at 12PM and stand in the blazing Miami-it’s-always-summer-sun for hours while security pats everyone down before letting them in. The DJs don’t even start playing until 4PM and let’s face it; a light show in the middle of the day doesn’t really shine “bright like a diamond.” So what is it about ULTRA that drives thousands of fans to crash a website in 5 minutes in hopes of scoring tickets?

Well, boasting the world’s hottest DJs, ULTRA Music Festival is the most famous outdoor electronic dance music (EDM) festival. Attracting electronic enthusiasts from all over the world since 1999, ULTRA attendance has skyrocketed to a near 200,000 guests per weekend. In its 15 year tenure, ULTRA has evolved to present the genre’s hottest headline artists such as Swedish House Mafia, The Chemical Brothers, Tiësto, David Guetta, deadmau5, Underworld, Kraftwerk, Armin van Buuren, Moby, Fatboy Slim, Justice, Carl Cox and Avicii. And while the Miami stage gets roughly 165,000 attendees, ULTRA isn’t limited to the tropical city. A truly global brand, ULTRA takes place in Miami, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Ibiza and Korea and now expanding into Europe with ULTRA EUROPE, July 2013 in Croatia.

But you don’t have to go all the way to ULTRA to experience the atmosphere EDM gives off. Channels like Frequency, Subterranean, Strobe, Kinetic, Dance, or Electronica can be used to design the exact atmosphere you’d find at ULTRA or in trendy clothing stores and popular fitness centers. ULTRA is this generation’s Woodstock, and our Music Designers at Mood can create experiences that fit this need.
