True Panther Sounds is a relatively new label that rose to prominence in College Rock and Indie Pop circles through the success of some great early signings. Releases from Girls, Real Estate and Magic Kids launched the label into our consciousness, while getting picked up by Matador in 2010 introduced new promotion and distribution resources to the fledgling label.
Although the most well-known artists on the label lean towards guitar Pop, the label doesn’t limit itself to any particular genre. True Panther has dabbled in Electronic, International, Garage, Avant Pop, Rock and everything in between. King Krule is one of the label’s more difficult to classify artists:
For vinyl collectors: get the $1.98 Matador/True Panther 2011/2012 sampler “Intended Play” to hear some tracks from new and future releases. It’s out in record stores now.
