This busy Australian label started out as a joint venture with EMI back in 1998. Since then it’s switched hands and operates under Universal. Modular‘s role as an Australian label within Universal’s infrastructure serves two important purposes. First, the label has introduced some of the great Australian artists of recent years to an international audience (Cut Copy and Tame Impala to name a couple). Second, the label has helped bring major artists from around the world to Australian audiences (Robyn, DOM, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) by distributing them down under.

Modular has amassed a solid catalog of Electronic Pop, Psych and Indie Rock over the last decade and a half. Underground credibility and crossover potential is a central concept that the label has been especially successful with (check out the fashionable Electro from the likes of Bag Raiders and Van She). They’ve managed to release music with the rare qualities of wide appeal and individual value.
