Kemado was founded in NYC in 2002. The label has released music from a range of genres, but its 2006 compilation, Invaders, helped to solidify a reputation for Rock. The compilation placed artists from the label’s roster next to other reputable Rock and Stoner Metal bands (High on Fire, Black Mountain, and Witchcraft to name a few).
One of the label’s early international successes was the Swedish Psych Rock band, Dungen.
In 2008, the label introduced the Mexican Summer imprint. This sub-label launched with a focus on limited edition releases and eye-catching packaging. The label puts out mainly Rock, Electronic and Experimental music.
With successful debuts from Washed Out and Best Coast in 2009 and 2010 respectively, Mexican Summer has become a force to be reckoned with in Indie music circles.
