Bloomington, Indiana is the unlikely home to an alliance of great independent record labels. Secretly Canadian, Jagjaguwar and Dead Oceans all share offices in this relatively small Midwest college town. Featured this week is Dead Oceans, the newest of these three labels.

Dead Oceans was founded in 2007 by Misra Records’ manager, Phil Waldorf, along with the Secretly Canadian and Jagjaguwar heads.  The label focuses on timeless recordings and doesn’t necessarily have any particular genre ties. Establishing itself early on, Dead Oceans put out a string of critically acclaimed releases from Dirty Projectors, Phosphorescent and Evangelicals among others.

Dead Oceans has been consistently prolific, with quite a few great new releases in 2012. Among the latest are English songwriter Bill Fay’s first new record in over 40 years and Sweden’s The Tallest Man On Earth’s There’s No Leaving Now. Check out some of the best new tracks below.

Bill Fay “Be At Peace With Yourself”

The Tallest Man On Earth “1904”

Bear In Heaven “Reflection of You”

A Place to Bury Strangers “You Are the One”

Akron/Family “So It Goes”
