Soul singer/songwriter Lianne La Havas visited San Diego in support of her newest release, Blood. Since hearing her under the radar but beautifully haunting “No Room for Doubt” a few years back, Lianne has upped her mainstream presence by singing with Prince last year during his stint on SNL, contributing guest vocals for DJ Rudimental as well as being all around adorable and immensely talented.
Lianne’s performance at my fave local venue, The Observatory North Park, didn’t disappoint as she jammed through most of her debut album and the majority of her sophomore LP, Blood. Lianne’s jazzy vocals were clear and oh-so-buttery throughout the night, solidifying fandom for life in me. Not only was her voice on point, but she also strummed along to nearly every song, alternating complementary guitars for each song, showing her true artistry and musicianship.
Show highlights include the laidback groove of “Unstoppable,” acoustic driven “Age” and the audience participation anthem “Grow” which played between the quiet verses and a powerful, sing along chorus. Of course I got a huge dose of the feels when she took on the tender cut “No Room for Doubt,” the song that introduced me to her. Ahhh full circle.
La Havas has refined an impressive brand of expressive Neo-Soul that has no regard for time. Find her songs and other similar cuts in our Core programs such as Cashmere, The BLVD. or Divas. Catch Lianne on tour or pick up her latest album Blood via Warner Brothers.
