As a Music Designer, one of the things I enjoy most about my job is going out to see live music. I have been so busy going to concerts this month, I am now referring to the month of October this year as concert month. It’s like all my favorite bands and solo artists got together and said, “Hey, let’s bogart the month of October for all our concerts in Austin, TX so Mandi is constantly tired from all the late shows.” Rad. Because, that’s exactly what’s happening. I am seeing awesome music shows that I will remember forever, but my body hates me for it. Ah well, you’re only 38 once. Hehe…
The list of shows I have seen this month are as follows:
I saw Jenny Lewis, (THREE TIMES in two weeks) at an Austin City Limits (ACL) taping, a show at Gruene Hall and a day of the Austin City Limits (ACL) Music Festival. I also saw Nikki Lane, Temples, The Districts, tUnE-yArDs, and MO. Additionally, I attended ONE day of ACL Festival (the Sunday of weekend two, where I saw Cults, Haerts, Miniature Tigers, Fitz and The Tantrums, Spoon, Lorde and Pearl Jam. I wrapped the whirlwind up with sets from The Drums, Ryan Adams, and Tennis. Phew. October has been A LONG MONTH. But, it’s been filled with all the music I love, so it’s totally worth all the neck, back, feet and leg pains. Once again, I’m 38, and 5’1. Concerts are my favorite AND my nightmare as a short person.
Below are select photos from the performances. They are not all the best, but, again, I am 5’1:
The Districts @ The Parish on 10/2/2014
Temples @ The Parish on 10/4/2014
MØ @ Emo’s on 10/5/2014
tUnE-yArDs @ Emo’s on 10/5/2014
If you’re early at Gruene Hall, you get to watch Jenny Lewis sound check.
Nikki Lane @ Gruene Hall on 10/8/2014
Jenny Lewis @ Gruene Hall on 10/8/2014
I took no photos at ACL Festival, except of Jenny Lewis. Did I mention I’m obsessed with her?
The Drums @ The Parish on 10/19/2014
Ryan Adams @ ACL Live at the Moody Theater on 10/23/2014
Most of the bands and solo artists I saw play live have a mix of genres and styles that work for many of our customers, as they all have an eclectic soundtrack for their businesses.
