As we count down to the end of 2019, we wanted to reflect on all of the incredible music released this year. Here at Mood, our Music Design team spends their days seeking out the best new music to enhance our global brand playlists (heard in 100+ countries around the world!) as well as new discoveries to add to their personal music collections. Our team is introduced to new releases via our relationships with record labels, submissions from independent artists through our website, and their own research. As we do each year, we asked our Music Designers to do the impossible and narrow down their favorite new (or new to them) artists for our “Best of 2019” series.
One artist that was highlighted by several Music Designers was Austin’s own Black Pumas. The group (consisting of singer Eric Burton and guitarist/producer Adrian Quesada) had a breakout year with the release of their debut album, an Austin City Limits taping, and a nomination for Best New Artist at the upcoming 2020 Grammy Awards. You can learn more about the band HERE and watch their new video for the single “Colors” below.
Several artists that appeared on our Music Designers lists likely ended up on yours as well, including Billie Eilish, Lizzo, and Maggie Rogers. These ladies dominated this year and you’ve likely heard each of them featured in our programming!
It’s no surprise that Nashville singer/songwriter Devon Gilfillian also made the list. We’ve been spinning his soulful single all year and were thrilled when Devon was gracious enough to take the time to visit our Austin office this year and meet our team. He even chatted with Music Design’s Vanessa Burden and Amy Frishkey. You can read highlights from their conversation HERE.
Here’s the full list of artists our Music Designers loved in 2019:
Olmeca, Francesca Blanchard
Megan Thee Stallion
Tyler the Creator
The Comet Is Coming
Park Hye Jin
Stay tuned to see which songs and albums topped our Music Designer’s lists in 2019…and their favorites from the decade!

Did you know it is Billie Eilish’s birthday today? I just found out. I’m so impressed with what that girl has acomplished at only 18 years old. I’m really excited to see what music she puts out moving forward.
