‘There’s a conclusion to my illusion, I assure you this” breaks the dramatic instrumental buildup brought on by church organ synths on the opening of the debut single “Younger” from 23 year old Universal recording artist, Seinabo Sey. Sey’s hardy, gospel tinged voice demands attention through the unique rhyme scheme building to the chorus.

Have to admit, it was a bit disheartening hearing “You know you ain’t getting any younger, younger, younger, are you?” from such a young artist before I really allowed the song to fully absorb. Despite her age, there is a truth and immediate connection through her delivery and poetic lyrics that travel far beyond her years.

The subtle yet sharp production by Magnus Lidehäll puts Sey’s impassioned vocals front and center before it takes off into the disco stratosphere to close it out. The desperation at the end of the chorus in “Are You?” pleads to find strength or motivation to do anything you’ve put off or been too afraid to accomplish, which is a commonality shared by people of all ages.

“Younger” is a perfect slice of pop positivity that would fit right into our core programs like Shine or FM1 and will hopefully jump start the career for this budding soulstress from Sweden. Check out “Younger” via Universal Music and if you like that grab her brand new single “Hard Time” also available now.
