A novel CD single swept my way recently from the lovely Isabel Rose. A theatrical singer and performer, Isabel Rose has a deep appreciation for nostalgia, particularly classy mixed with camp. We actually share some similar childhood experiences, both of us having military fathers who impressed upon us a strong influence and appreciation for music and theater. Isabel has not only a unique taste for the arts, but a sense of humor to lift one from the sublime to blissful, carefree que sera. In her own words, “If John Denver and Liza Minnelli had a lovechild, that would be moi!”
What caught my attention on this new release was not her cover of the Supreme’s hit, “Reflections”, as that is pretty true to the original. Skip to the third track on Trouble in Paradise and one finds a truly wonderful remix by the legendary DJ and production duo of Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper. They brought elegance to Isabel’s rendition, taking what might have been expected and raising it to new heights.
A wonderful selection for boutiques and feminine brands.
